Module A-138m is a 4 x 4 matrix mixer with switches for unipolar/bipolar mode for each column.

Unipolar means that the controls work as attenuators.

Bipolar means that the controls work as polarizers. In this mode the amplification is zero in the middle position of the corresponding control. Turning the knob counterclockwise from the center position the signal is subtracted from the output sum with increasing amount (i.e. negative). Turning the knob clockwise from the center position the signal is added to the output sum with increasing amount.

By means of an internal jumper one can select if the four upper controls work as DC offset generators – provided that no patch cord is plugged into the upper input socket.

If this feature is not required it can be deactivated by removing the jumper on top left of the pc board. The function is identical to the A-138a/b

Module A-168-1 is a pulsewidth modulation generator (PWM Module). It derives a rectangle signal with adjustable pulsewidth from an external triangle, sawtooth or sine wave. The external signal can be an LFO, VCO or any other signal with falling/rising slopes (e.g. ADSR). In addition the pulsewidth can be modulated by a CV signal (e.g. LFO or ADSR).
The typical application is the generation of a rectangle signal with PWM from VCOs or LFOs which do not yet have this feature.

Module A-180-1 is a simple multi-connector.

It has eight inter-connected sockets, so that you can patch more inputs or outputs into any module.

The sockets are split into two groups of four.

If an 8-fold multiple is required a bridge has to be soldered at the pc board.

Even though the A-180-1 is a very “primitive” low-level module it is required very often. Within a big A-100 system sufficient multiples should be planned.

The A-184-2 contains two independent circuits. On one hand there’s a curve converter which forms a triangle into a nealy perfect sine; pretty handy as an oscillator expancer for VCOs without a sine or with an inperfect one. On the other hand the module features a voltage controlled crossfader which, using high quality SSM-VCAs, is intended for audio.

The upper part of the module is, like stated before, is a very precise curve converter for generating an utterly clean sine wave from a triangle wave.

The bottom part is a circuit for crossfading between two input signals to one output. This can happen manually with the CF control as well as voltage controlled via the scaleable CV input.
Both inputs are equipped with LEDs displaying signal levels. The A input is normalized to the sine converters’ output.

Module A-147-2 is the successor of the VCLFO A-147 but offers much more features than the predecessor. The module is made of three sub-units: VC-LFO, VCA and VC-delay.

The voltage controlled LFO has the waveforms Triangle, Sine, Sawtooth and Rectangle available and features a Reset/Sync input. Triangle/Sine and Rectangle are displayed by means of dual-color LEDs. The CV control can be switched to attenuator or polarizer. The frequency range (without external CV) is from about 0,005 Hz (i.e. about 3 minutes) to 200 Hz. In addition an ultra-low mode (up to 1 hour) can be activated by means of an internal jumper.

The linear VCA can be switched to “normal” VCA or voltage controlled polarizer. In polarizer mode the VCA can be treated also a DC coupled ring modulator.
The VCA of the A-147-2 has three sockets available: “In” (signal input), “Out” (signal output) and “CV” (control voltage input).
The Triangle Output of the LFO is normalled to the VCA signal input by means of the switching contact of the “VCA In” socket. If another LFO waveform (or any other signal) should be processed by the VCA the corresponding signal has to be patched to the “VCA In” socket. The VCA can be used also independently from the LFO and the Delay CV.

The third sub-unit of the module is a simple, voltage controlled envelope that has only the parameter “Delay” (or Attack) available. This unit generates a linear increasing voltage. The manual Delay control ranges – without external “Delay CV” – from about 5ms up to 2 minutes. By means of an external voltage applied to the “Delay CV” socket this range can be extended.
The Delay output voltage ranges from about 0V to +5V. The rising edge of the gate, clock or trigger signal applied to the “Delay Reset” sockets resets the Delay output voltage to 0 V.
But the Delay sub-unit can be used also independently from the LFO and VCA, e.g. as a voltage controlled waveshaper or for other applications where a linear increasing signal with voltage controlled steepness is required.

A-104 is a fourfold formant filter as used in the Mixtur Trautonium by Oskar Sala. It is made of four parallel resonance filters, each filter can be switched to low pass or band pass or off.

Frequency, resonance and level are controlled for each filter separately (no voltage control). The frequency range for the filters is about 50Hz…5kHz. The filter audio inputs are very sensitive so that distortion may intentionally be used to create new sounds – if desired. The A-104 is a versatile module for sound modification. In the first place it is used for reproduction of resonances (e.g. the vocal-like effects known from the Trautonium). In combination with the subharmonic generator A-113, the Trautonium Manual A-198 and some other A-100 modules one obtains a Trautonium replica.

A-101-6 is a filter module that uses so-called opto FETs to control the filter frequency. Opto FETs are very similar to Vactrols but use light depending field effect transistors (FETs) instead of light depending resistors (LDRs). A opto FET is a combination of a light depending FET and a LED (light emitting diode) both put into a small light-proof case. The advantage compared to vactrols is the much faster response of opto FETs compared to LDRs. This allows much faster attack/decay times and even FM effects. The disadvantage compared to vactrols is that the FET behaves as a normal Ohm resistor only for small levels.

Module A-101-6 is made of six serial 6dB filter stages. Each stage can work as lowpass, highpass or one of two allpass types.
The brightness of the Opto FET LEDs and consequently the filter frequency can be adjusted manually (Frequ. control) and controlled by means of an external control voltage (CV) with attenuator.

Module A-101-3 is a 12 stage phase shifter with vactrols as phase shifting elements.

Vactrols are known for their smooth sound behaviour.

In contrast to other phaser designs the A-101-3 is much more flexible and offering a lot of new features not available from other phasers on the market (as far as we know, please tell us if we are wrong).

The main difference is that our design offers access to each of the 12 input and output stages leading to a lot of new filters that cannot be obtained in other ways.

Especially the free patchable feedback loops (yes, not only one feedback loop is possible) between each of the 12 stages, the separate phase shift control for the stages 1-6 and 7-12, and the 2 polarizers intended to control the feedback loops lead to completely new filter types (a polarizer is a circuit that is able to generate positive and negative amplifications in the range -1…0…+1 with -1 = inversion, 0 = full attenuation, +1 = unchanged signal).

Internally the module is made of 2 independent 6 stage phase shifters (1-6 reps. 7-12) with separate audio inputs (with attenuators), audio outputs (with mix control), and phase shift control units. The phase shift control units feature both manual and voltage controlled phase shifting (e.g. from a LFO, ADSR, Random Voltage, Theremin CV, Foot Controller CV …).

A-101-2 is a vactrol based combination of Low Pass filter (LP) and VCA and was inspired by the Buchla module 292.

The term “Low Pass Gate” was created by Don Buchla and stands for a module that can be switched between low pass and VCA. The control (manually and via external CV) is responsible for frequency in the low pass mode and for loudness in the VCA mode.

Additionally a combined mode LP+VCA is available. In this mode the sound becomes more dull as the loudness decreases.

In contrast to the Buchla design the A-101-2 offers attenuators for both CV and audio input, a manual resonance control and two gate inputs to control the function of the module in addition to the manual toggle switch.

In principle the A-101-2 is a 12 dB low pass filter that can be switched to VCA or a combination of Low Pass and VCA.

The controlling elements for frequency (LP mode) resp. amplitude (VCA mode) are so-called vactrols.

Vactrols are known for their smooth sound behaviour.
