FDN (or “feedback delay network”) reverb has long been a staple of electronic music, desirable for its thick, heavily diffused nature that responds well to synthesizer sounds. Aeverb takes this long history and wraps it in a 6HP stereo module.

We started with the algorithm from our original Aeverb module (originally created by Sean Costello of Valhalla DSP for CSound) and experimented heavily with the diffusors from our popular ADverb plugin (itself a model of the famous 224 digital reverb), made it stereo, and poked and prodded until we came up with something that works very well in the Eurorack modular synth context.

Aeverb Mk2 has two algorithms, selected by the ALGO switch. The first is an extended version of the original algorithm, with much longer decay time (or “RT60 time,” in reverb vernacular) and heavier diffusion, for a major improvement in both sound and capabilities. The second algorithm removes the diffusors, changes the internal EQ and feedback routing somewhat, and shortens the delay times for a “room” simulation that is perfect for percussion sounds.

We then added control over the high-pass filter on the input to the delay network for much more tonal control, and the result is a reverb that will perform workhorse duties, yet still has an extensive palette of experimental sounds perfect for the more adventurous musician. All of this in 6HP, too!

Sequencer 1 is a top-of-the-line x0x-flavored Eurorack sequencer, for controlling up to four voices at once.

Our goal with this product was to make a no-compromises, versatile drum voice with a 100% analog signal path, and that made us happy. The first part was relatively simple. The “happy” part took a while. But after over a year of R&D and many, many iterations, we're pleased to present ADM14 Boomtschak, a drum voice that we're proud to call ours.

The left side of the unit comprises a triangle core oscillator, a VCA, two envelopes, and a waveshaper, and the right side is a noise source, multi-mode resonant filter, VCA, and one envelope. With a logical layout and versatile voice topology, Boomtschak is capable of face-melting kick drums and snares, and more strange percussion and sound FX than you can shake a (drum) stick at. The oscillator bottoms out at 5 Hz (!!!), and can track 1V/Oct over nearly seven octaves, so you can also use Boomtschak as a synth voice, for paint-peeling sub bass or a mallet-style melodic source higher up.

The trigger and choke allow full control over the enveloping, while a velocity CV input allows dynamic control. These, plus control voltage inputs over pertinent values make Boomtschak incredibly expressive. All in all, it is one of the most versatile and potent drum voices available for the Eurorack platform.

 
Features
Pitch – sets the frequency of the VCO

Bend Depth  – controls how much the pitch-bend envelope generator changes the frequency of the VCO. This is a bidirectional control; at its center position, the EG has no effect on the VCO.

Bend Decay – sets the decay time of the pitch-bend EG.

Bend Shape – varies the shape of the pitch-bend EG from a sharp exponential curve to a linear ramp.

Amp Decay – sets the decay time of the envelope generator which controls the VCA for the VCO, and hence how long the VCO tone is heard.

Amp Shape – varies the shape of the VCO amplitude EG from a sharp exponential curve to a linear ramp.

Wave Switch – switches the VCO output between a triangle wave and a quasi sine wave.

Klik Tone – changes the brightness of a short click added to the beginning of the sound.

Waveshaper – controls a simple wave-folder which changes the shape of the VCO’s signal.

Filter Freq – sets the frequency of the multi-mode filter for the noise source.

Filter Q – sets the resonance of the filter.

Mod Source Switch – choose the source of modulation for the filter frequency. There are three options: the amplitude envelope generator for the noise source, the pitch bend oscillator for the VCO, and the VCO’s signal.

Mod Depth – controls how much the modulation signal selected with the MOD SOURCE switch changes the filter frequency. This is a bidirectional control; at its center position, the filter frequency will not be changed by the modulation signal.

Filter Mode Switch – chooses one of three filter response modes: low pass, band pass, or high pass.

Amp Decay – sets the decay time of the envelope generator which controls the VCA for the noise source, and hence how long the noise is heard.

Amp Shape – varies the shape of the noise amplitude EG from a sharp exponential curve to a linear ramp.

Mix – varies the relative loudness of the VCO and the noise source. At its center position, the noise source and VCO have roughly equal loudness. Rotate the knob counter-clockwise to hear more of the VCO, rotate it clockwise to hear more noise.

Level – sets the overall output level of the module.

Manual Button – press this to trigger the module manually. Use it while setting BoomTschak’s knobs or for live improvisation.

Trigger Input – Apply a positive-going rectangular wave to this jack to trigger the module. A +5V signal is best but the module will trigger at lower voltages.

Velocity – A control-voltage input for varying the loudness of the module. Positive voltages increase the loudness; negative voltages decrease it.

Choke – A positive-going rectangular pulse applied to this input will cut off (choke) the output of the module.

Filter Input – Plugging a signal into this jack will bypass the module’s noise source, passing the signal through the filter.

CV Inputs – There are five control-voltage jacks associated with some of the knobs. Applying a positive voltage to these jacks has the same effect as turning the associated knob clockwise; applying a negative voltage has the opposite effect.

Mechanicals – Boomtschak is 24HP wide, and has a depth of 16mm; it will fit in any skiff. It ships with a 16-conductor keyed power cable and four nickel-plated M3x6 screws.

Kompressor is, as the name implies, a DSP-based buss compressor for the Eurorack format, with two operating modes: true stereo, or mono with sidechain.

Equally at home taming your master outputs or drum mix, or sidechain-pumping a bass or synth line, Kompressor brings our incredibly popular dynamics code, used in many of our plug-in products (including Rough Rider, Rough Rider Pro, and Kombinat Dva), in to the realm of hardware.
 
» The THRESH knob controls threshold (sensitivity) level, from 0dB to -60dB.

» RATIO is a scaled control. The first half of the rotation goes from 1:1 to 1:10, and from 12 o'clock to fully clockwise, it goes from 1:10 to 1:1000 (infinite).

» The SPEED knob controls both the attack and release of the dynamics. At fully anti-clockwise, attack is 5ms and release is 50ms. At fully clockwise, attack is 100ms and release is 500ms.

» The MAKEUP knob adds gain to the final signal to compensate for attenuation in the compressor, from 0dB to +30dB. This leads directly to a soft-knee saturation stage; overdriving this stage provides everything from a mild “tube-like” saturation sound to full-on distortion, depending on the settings of the compressor stage.

» The MODE switch determines the unit's style of operation. In L/R mode, Kompressor is true stereo, while in M/SC mode, the LEFT input and output are the monophonic compressor. If a cable is plugged in to the RIGHT input, then the sidechain mode is activated, and the RIGHT input's level controls the gain reduction. The RIGHT input signal is passed through to the RIGHT output, for convenience's sake.

Proton is Audio Damage's take on the classic Karplus-Strong tuned delay line physical modelling synthesis. Take a capable “vintage digital” style delay line with 1V/Oct clocking, and add an enveloped noise burst, and you have a plucked string physical model. We wrap this up in some of our standard Audio Damage aural hijinks, and Proton is the result.

Starting with the delay line, which is “tuned” via the coarse and fine tune knobs, we then add a quality low pass filter (modelled on the MS20's LPF) and damping circuits. We hit this with a noise burst from an analog random number generator that passes through two more filters and an envelope with decay to produce the plucked sound. A “CHOKE” input empties the delay line, for extra dynamic control.

Since Karplus-Strong synthesis lacks bottom in general, we have a “SUB” control that adds a sine at the fundamental frequency to produce gut-churning low end in the bass register. The result is a physical model synth that is capable of both delicate harp-like plucks and monster face-melting basslines.

Dimensions is a true stereo chorus effect for the Eurorack modular system featuring two algorithms. The first is a direct port of our Fluid chorus plug-in, and the second is taken from the unit's namesake. With automatic routing based upon what you plug in the I/O, Dimensions can do mono->mono, mono->stereo, and true stereo chorus duties.

Dimensions' Mode A operation is a ludicrously thick chorus. Most chorus effects have either a single delay line or a pair. Dimensions has six of them, each with its own modulation scheme. The Mode B operation changes the routing to match the vintage rack unit, but keeps the controls available. This results in a subtly different, but equally thick and appealing, effect.
Features

» RATE knob controls the modulation speed of the internal LFO.

» DEPTH knob controls the amount the internal LFO modulates the delay lines.

» FEEDBACK knob adds a small amount of internal feedback to the delay lines. This accentuates the effect, which is quite desirable on some sounds (smooth legato synth lines, for example.)

» MIX knob controls the wet/dry mix of the effect.

» MODE switch toggles between the two topologies in Dimensions. Mode A is an iteration of our popular Fluid plug-in chorus, and Mode B is a topology based on the unit's namesake.

» The inputs and outputs are self-routing, and update the internal topology based upon which cables are plugged in. The unit operates in mono->mono, mono->stereo, and true stereo modes.

Shapes is a true stereo waveshaping and wavetable lookup effect.

We started with 16 smoothly interpolated wavetables that can be scanned from audio input. Then we added nine waveshaping algorithms, and made it true stereo for good measure.

Shapes will, well, shape any source, from a simple sine or triangle oscillator on up to full stereo program material, in to a motherload of new sounds. From turning a sine in to a simple square or saw on up to full Nine Inch Nails / Merzbow level destruction, Shapes adds hugely to the sonic palette of your Eurorack modular synthesizer.

» The WAVE/ALGO knob and CV input control which wave or algorithm is active. In LOOKUP mode, the knob controls which of sixteen tables the input will scan. In ALGO mode, the knob controls which of nine algorithms will affect the input.

» The PARAM 1 knob is a variable function knob. In LOOKUP mode, it controls the width of the table scan, from about 15% of the table (at full anti-clockwise) to the entire table (at full clockwise.) In ALGO mode, its function varies, but it is usually Drive or Amount. (Basically “more.”)

» The PARAM 2 knob, in LOOKUP mode, controls the start position of the table. It can effectively be thought of as a phase control. In ALGO mode, its function varies, and it is not used in every algorithm.

» The MIX knob controls an equal power wet/dry mix. At full anti-clockwise, you only hear the input, and at full clockwise you only hear the effect.

» The MODE switch controls whether the module acts as a wavetable scanner or a waveshaper. In LOOKUP mode, the wavetables are active, while in ALGO mode, the algorithms are active.

» Shapes is true stereo; the left and right signals do not intermingle internally; thus you can, for instance, run a kick in the left channel and a snare in the right, and vary the effect by attenuating either channel before it enters the module.

The Audio Damage ADM15 Spectre module captures a moment in time, and allows you to freeze it and mix it with the input to create amazing spectral soundscapes.

Featuring two distinct modes of operation, Spectre is equally adept at freeze-glitching rhythmic parts or providing complex tuned dronescapes for ambient beds. With the Infinite Mode off, either a manual button or a gate signal activates the freeze effect, and with Infinite Mode on, the button or a trigger signal captures a new freeze, allowing for stunning and unique possibilities.

The Blur and Shift controls allow further modification of the frozen FFT signal There are two Shift modes (linear “Bin” shift and harmonic “Pitch” shift). Massive stereo decorrelation is possible via the Blur control, which ranges from subtle widening to inharmonic insanity.

Spectre is built to the highest possible standards in the USA, with full over-voltage and reverse protection, panel-bolted 100,000-turn BI potentiometers, custom Rogan knobs, and a back-mounted USB port for firmware updates.
 

» The SHIFT knob controls either linear (“BIN”) or harmonic (“PITCH”) shift of the frozen signal. The harmonic shift is up or down one octave.

» The BLUR knob controls the amount of noise added to the frozen FFT frame to provide stereo decorrelation and blurring effects.

» The MIX knob controls the mix between the dry and wet signals, and can be used creativel to overlay source material over the frozen signal.

» The INFINITE switch determines the operating mode of the unit, and the behavior of the TRIGGER input. With INFINITE in the “OFF” position, the TRIGGER accepts gates, which turn the freeze on and off, and with it in the “ON” position, the unit is continuously running a freeze, and the TRIGGER accepts triggers, and updates the freeze on the rising edge of a 1V+ signal or a button push.

Neuron is an FM-based all-in-one drum voice module suitable for all types of electronic music. From big Autechre-style FM hits to huge digital hardcore kicks to tight x0x snare drums, Neuron can make a broad range of percussion sounds with ease.

Starting with super fast envelopes internally curved for percussion sounds, we add a carrier wave that is a single-cycle sample straight from the PCB of a 909's kick oscillator. We then add pure sine modulation, analog-modelled soft saturation, digital distortion, and a true random-number-generator for white noise.
