The AQA ElektriX Gated Mixer is a 4 channel Audio signal mixer, consisting two 2-in-1 mixers (1+2 ?& 3+4), whose outputs are summed together to the master output. All 4 channels can be switched ON/OFF via switches and/or gate or even CV signals.

Furthermore there is an AUX-input, which is routed unity gain (no attenuator) to the SUM. The logic of switching the signals on and off can be negated (inverted), meaning a high control signal could switch the signal on (gate=on) – or the opposite behaviour; a high control signal could switch the signal off (gate=mute).

So you can always switch the channels on and off using the switch, by just flipping the channel´s state (on or off). No disturbing clicks or glitches should be heard when switching an audio input signal on and off due to a fast “slew ramping” takes place in the circuit, controlling the amplitude of the signal when switched on and off.
Each Channel has a LED which is lighting up, when the channel is switched on.

The AQA-ElektriX Dual Panning VCA is specially designed to process audio signals, dynamically positioning them in a stereo field. In case one processes mono signals, but still needs low distortion, low CV feed-trough, low noise voltage controlled attenuation and amplifcation, the unit can be also operated as two standalone VCAs.

The module has two exponential response VCAs with voltage and manually controlled gains, input level attenuators and overload indicators.
When no jack is connected to IN 2 and CV 2 inputs, they are normalized to IN 1 and CV 1 inputs respectively. Some of the possible confgurations with this arrangement allow the gain of both channels to be controlled together with one CV, while processing different audio signals, or both channels to be operated individually, if needed. The gain balance between both VCAs and hence the panorama position of a stereo signal is manually and voltage controllable. The common gain of the two channels is also manually adjustable with a single pot.

The AQA UP73R module consists of one ramp core oscillator with several wave shaper subcircuits, all having that classical vintage tone, loved by a lot of musicians and soundsynthesists.
The VCO is capable of delivering that without sacrificing tracking precision and low temperature drift.
Available waveshapes are saw, inverted saw, triangle, sine and PW rectangle, which uses the saw wave from the waveshaper as a carrier for the PWM. It can be varied by CV and manually within a range from 0 percent to almost 100 percent.
The possibility to play VCO in low, middle and high modes, together with the 10 turn precision Tune pot results in a very convenient ”on the fly” way of tuning the module. It’s core can be frequency modulated exponentially from two inputs, both CV controlled. When fully open the input attenuators are calibrated for 1 V/Oct. There is one more input – for linear modulation with manual amount control, AC coupled and configured like differentiator. In this way it is sure no detuning caused by DC, will take place when modulation signal is presented at the FM Input, but only frequency modulation, centered around the already played tone.
Syncing the core to outside source makes a whole lot of difference, when there is the additional option to vary continuously by CV and manually the threshold of synchronization from no sync, soft sync and hard sync. This input is configured as attenuverter for even more flexibility. Note when the Treshold pot is fully CW there will be no sound output anymore. The reference wave source for the soft sync is the saw from the oscillator. Sync input itself reacts to every repeatable waveform with amplitude higher than 1,2 Vpp.

The Triple Envelope Generator gives you three ADSR-envelopes in one module. This envelope is inspired by the one of the System 100m which is very strong in creating percussive sounds.

Each of the three envelopes can be triggered via their own gate inpus. The inputs are normalised, therefore all three envelopes can also be triggered at once by one common trigger input.
Each envelope generator has a normal and inverted output, the range can be switched between short and long.

The module is made of precision components, as used in measuring instruments for instance, in order to keep the parameters exact and stable for a long time.
As flashly LEDs for visualisation were omitted the power consumption of the Triple Envelope Generatois quite low.

The Dual VC Delay consists of 2 equal, independent delays A and B, each with it´s own feedback loop.

Each contains a 6dB HP and a 6dB LP filter (not VC), but the internal feedback loop can be opened by patching a cable into the „IN FB“ – jacks to route other signal-processing modules into the feedback-loop. Please note that there is no „Dry-Signal“-path. By designing the module, we thought, it would be mostly used in combination with other modules to achieve some echoes and reverberated ambience, one could put one delay in the feedback-path of another delay for example – there are many different routing configurations, achieving strange modulated reverberated space by combining several Dual VC Delay-modules in various manner.

Due to it´s vast flexibility, the module offers load´s of possibilities for hours-longing sessions of mangling signals, pitch modulation and the generation of phantastic ethereal outer galactic spaces. Used in parallel/stereo-mode, it generates voltage controlled modulated spatial effects with it´s own special character. The sound of the Princeton PT2399 delay chip often reminds for BBD-circuit´s which principle in fact shares similarities with the function of the PT2399 chip. Because the audio -and CV – input´s are normalized in the scheme of A=>B, the module is following your needs for many different patching situations easily. The sonic possibilities of using several module together can be mind blowing, especially when the almost endless possibilities of different feedback-routing are explored.

The Dual 12 dB State Variable VCF module contains two 12dB state variable multimode VCF´s A and B, which both offer a Lowpass, a Bandpass and a Highpass filtered output of the input signal as well as a Notch-output, simultaneously.

The notch output is just a crossfaded HP and LP signal, so the corresponding knob can blend continuously between LP (knob fully counterclockwise) over Notch (knob´s 12´o clock position) to HP (knob fully clockwise). Both filters A and B can be independently controlled, there is a cutoff and a resonance knob for each of them. The cutoff of both filters can also be controlled together by another „main“-cutoff-knob, so turning that knob, both filter cutoff´s will be controlled in „gang-mode“. All audio and CV inputs are normalized from Filter A=>B. Both filters A and B can be routed in parallel or serial configuration using the „ser/par-switch“ ( A=>B or A II B). Both filters A and B have CV inputs for Cutoff and resonance each, which can be attenuverted separately, so you could use one CV for controlling both filters simultaneously by pluging the control CV into the CV input for filter A, since the CV-inputs are normalized. Both filters could be modulated by the CV in the same direction or in inverse directions by different amounts. Additionally, both filters A and B have an CV input for controlling the cutoff using nearly a Volt/Octave characteristic. In serial mode, the signal flow is from Filter A=>B. You can use a switch („HP/LP/Notch / BP“) to select either the LP/Notch/HP-output (choosen by the „LP-HP – knob“ of Filter A) or the BP – output of filter A. Both Input – attenuator´s (Filter A and B) are active and can be used to adjust the signal level. Please be careful! The module can produce very loud signals, especially under high resonance settings of both filters and even more, when both cutoff-settings of Filter A and B are very close to each other.

The Quadrature LFO is generating an sine wave and 3 phase-shifted copies of it:
by 90° (cosine), 180° (inverted sine) and 270° (inverted cosine).
The frequency of the LFO can be voltage controlled, the CV input is attenuverted.

You can use the LFO in a wider frequency range, from very low oscillations up to above the audio range. There is another CV-input, which let´s the LFO to be pitched by volt/octave, the tracking is quite ok over 2-3 octaves. A interesting possibility is to patch an output of the module to the Rate CV input, so you can create new waveforms that way while still controlling the Lfo by the V/Oct. Input. Using more than one module, you can create complicated and interesting output waveforms, up to pseudo-chaotic signals, escpecially, when 2 or more LFO´s modulating each other by pitch.

The M/S MATRIX converts a Left/Right-Stereo-Signal into its Mid and Side Components. The Mid component is the sum of the left and right signal while the Side component is the difference between left and right. Second, it converts a Mid/Side-Stereo signal back into its left and right components. This is very useful to change the base-width of a stereo signal for example. Many other applications for that module are possible:

  • changing the stereo base-width to mono for lower frequencies (using a inserted filter in the side-signal chain)
  • compressing the side signal differently as the mid signal to exaggerate the „ambience“ of a recorded or mixed stereo signal
  • endless possibilities for crazy manipulations of stereo signals.
