Apprentice Cabinet

he apprentice cabinet is a neat 3U desk housing for Analogue Systems Eurorack modules. It is made of walnut and was built skillfully by an English boatbuilder.

You get one slightly angled row of 168 HP. The cabinet can easily be placed behind a Demon- or French Connection-Keyboard as an extension to these.

The strong PSU of the cabinet offers enough electricity for the power-hungry AS-modules. Additionally it also offers +5V voltage for modules with digital circuits.

The PSU can be switched from 115V to 230V via a switch on the back of the case. In general, it is very clean and professionally designed.

All systems by Analogue Systems come readily configured and ready-to-operate with a 5 year warranty as long as they are not opened or modified.

For safety reasons we are only allowed to deliver cabinets closed by modules or blind panels.

RS-150 Sequential Switch

RS-150 Sequential Switch

  • Type/ Switch
  • Width/ 6HP
  • Power/ +15mA
  • Depth/ –

Sequential switch module for switching up to four input signals to one common output. The switching is done manually or by an incoming trigger signal. The reset function allows for shortening the sequence length.

Four different signals, CVs or audio signals can be switched to one output – it is not possible vice-versa as the RS-150 module isn´t bi-directional.

Switching is generally done with a trigger or clock signal at the Clock input but it can be handled manually with the STOP / RUN / STEP switch that has three different modes:

– STOP: the chosen input will be held. Incoming triggers will be ignored
– RUN: the switch reacts to triggers at the clock input and will switch thru the inputs
– STEP: switching is done manually by flipping the switch to “step”-position

The reset function allows for setting the switch back to step 1. This can be done at any given time by a trigger signal at the reset jack or automatized by the reset switch that will shorten the maximal sequence length between 2, 3 or 4 steps.

RS-140 MIDI/CV Converter

  • Type/ Midi
  • Width/ 24HP
  • Power/ +20mA/-20mA/+5V 200mA
  • Depth/ 90mm

The RS-140 converts MIDI messages into control voltages and due to its numerous analog outputs it gives you plenty of possibilities to control your modular system with MIDI. Besides the usual CV and gate outputs in addition it offers flexible controller outputs and it´s big backlit display and four function buttons make it easy to use.

In the CV menu you can set the voltage characteristic of the CV outputs (either 1V/octave or 1.02V/oct as the Minimoog had), the note range of the pitchbend wheel and the modulation depth of the internal LFO. This LFO can be synchronized to MIDI Clock, has several wave forms and MIDI-controlled level. Both CV outputs carry the same signal and they are active buffered.

Each trigger socket can output a gate, a trigger or a S-trigger (for old Moogs), either as multi trigger or single trigger. Alternatively you can output the MIDI clock that´s rate can be divided down in 9 settings.

Controller: each controller output can be assigned to one of 128 Control Change commands, the pitch bend wheel, velocity or aftertouch (plus the internal LFO for controller output 1). Besides that you can set one of four output voltage ranges (0 bis 5V; -5V bis 0V; -2,5V bis 2,5V und -5V bis 5V).

All settings can be saved in the non-volatile memory and you have 64 memory slots. Each of them can be recalled by Controlb Change messages.

RS-130 Programmable Scale Generator
RS-130 Programmable Scale Generator
RS-130 Programmable Scale Generator

  • Type/ Generator
  • Width/ 24HP
  • Power/ +110mA/-110mA
  • Depth/ 93mm

The Programmable Scale Generator exceeds the possibilities of an ordinary quantiser module. While a quantiser usually is chromatic only and with a little luck it allows major and minor scales, a programmable scale generator like the RS-130 makes it possible to freely program scales beyond the customary semitone scale with all their derivates. Scales with quarter-note or eighth-note intervals are possbile which is important e.g. for indian or oriental music.

Two modes determine when quantisation takes place: in “free run” it happens only when input voltage changes. In “gate” mode quantisation happens when the RS-130 receives a gate signal.

Six quantisation modes are available:

– Quantiser: Acts as a normal chromatic quantiser for semitones
– C major scale: when offset = 0 and no CV at the transpose input it creates only a C major scale (C, D, E, F, G, A, B)
– C minor scale: when offset = 0 and no CV is present at the transpose in, only a C minor is created (C, D, Eb, F, G, Ab, Bb)
– C major Arpeggio: when offset = 0 and no CV is present at the transpose in, only a C major arpeggio is created (C, E, G)
– C minor arpeggio: when offset = 0 and no CV is present at the transpose in, only a C minor apreggio is created (C, Eb, G)
– user memory mode: creates user programmed scales

When setting a fixed voltage with the offset control (0-2V, ie. two octaves offset), you apply a fixed transposition to the scale. Any possible scale can be set when you use the transpose CV inputs in addition.

At each quantisation process a trigger signal will fired at the trig out which you can use for clocking a sequencer or a fireing envelopes.

RS-120 Comb Filter
RS-120 Comb Filter
RS-120 Comb Filter

  • Type/ Filter
  • Width/ 12HP
  • Power/ +10mA/-10mA
  • Depth/ 65mm

The RS-120 is quite an unusual filter because unlike other filters it cuts several notches into the audio signal which result in a comb-like look of the frequency spectrum. Soundwise it is perfectly suited to create phaser and flanger sounds.

The filter is based on a bucket-brigade-device delay with very short times that clearly changes the phase of the signal. The feedback of this delay is used here as a resonance parameter that goes up to self-oscillation.

There are two audio inputs with level control. Unity gain is reached at the pot´s position 4, beyond this point the filter will be overdriven. A control sets the delay time from 2.5ms to 25ms and in addition there are two CV inputs for controlling delay time, one with fixed 1V/oct and a variable one.

RS-110 Multimode Filter
RS-110 Multimode Filter
RS-110 Multimode Filter

  • Type/ Filter
  • Width/ 18HP
  • Power/ +70mA
  • Depth/ 65mm

The RS-110 is a resonant analog multimode filter with excellent sound, resonance and four simultaneously available filter types. An insert function in the feedback loop allows you to insert other audio processors.

The module has two audio inputs, each with a level control. “unity gain” is reached at position 4, beyond this the signal will be overdriven at the filter input. The cutoff frequency can be set manually in a range of 30Hz to over 15kHz, with additional CVs even up to 50kHz. Separate audio outputs for the four filter types are available: 24dB low pass, 24dB high pass, 12dB band pass and 12dB notch.

Resonance goes up to self-oscillation and besides that it offers an unique feature: the socket Res-Out and Res-In act like an insert i.e. they allow you to process the audio signal in the feedback loop by other audio processors like filters, distortions, delays, frequency shifters etc.

You get very wicked results when you connect the notch output with the resonance input. It sounds very metallic and the filter behavoiur gets more aggressive. Generally it is fun to cross-connect the separate outputs with the CV and audio inputs and to use the filter in a modular way.

RS-100S Low pass filter Mk3

  • Type/ Filter
  • Width/ 12HP
  • Power/ +30mA/-30mA
  • Depth/ 64mm

This low pass filter is a very good -24dB/octave Moog filter, based on the classic Moog cascade with selected, low-noise transistors.

Being the successor of the RS-100, the new “S” version features several improvements regarding stability, tracking, distortion behavoiur and also the frequency range.

Two signal inputs, resonance, manually and voltage controlled cutoff frequency. Frequency range 10Hz to 35kHz with CVs applied.
The transistors used in the filter cascade are low-noise and have been selected and matched in pairs to improve the frequency response over the whole frequency range.
A better stability guarantees, after a one minute heating time, that the filter can be used as a clean and well tracking sine wave oscillator.
