Chopping kinky is a voltage controllable, dual channel Wavefolder.

A wavefolder converts simple signals into richer and more dynamically changing ones. In contrast to a filter, wavefolding adds harmonic content to the waveform. It works by amplifying the waveform until it begins to saturate, then rather than clipping, the waveform gets folded back in on itself.

Each of the module’s two channels has a unique wavefolding profile. At each input there are two CV inputs for controlling the level of waveshaping including one that passes through an attenuverter.

The CHOPPING KINKY is DC coupled allowing it to be used for both CV and audio duties; to generate harmonics on an audio signal or kinking LFOs and envelopes.

INTRODUCTION
The VC ADSR is our take on the classic ADSR: now smaller, more powerful and user friendly.

The circuit is based in a dual transistor “Current Mirror” (a voltage controlled integrator) and switching logic

FEATURES
This compact unit features voltage control for each stage with manual faders to improve usability, feel and aesthetics.

A unique feature of the VC ADSR is the gate outputs for each stage of the envelope offering an extra level of control over your patch!

Envelope generation can be triggered and controlled with the use of the panel mounted push button or with the trigger/gate input.

Control of the response curve between each stage of the envelope (from linear to logarithmic/exponential) is provided by a potentiometer.

Phase Time Limits:

Attack:  Min 3.0ms (down to 200µS with negative CV) // Max 10s

Decay:  Min 2.8ms (down to 400µS with negative CV) // Max 10s

The module is built around two voltage controlled integrators. Integrators (also known as Lag Processors or Slew limiters) allow you to process your voltages, converting sharp square waves in ramp-like waveforms.
These lovely devices can, for instance, convert a gate signal into a simple envelope, or achieve a “portamento” or “glide” effect when applied to pitch CV.

Second version of our Crush delay. An echo-delay unit based on PT2399 that specializes in generating digital garbage and noise!

This unit has been improved greatly from first version and signal routing has been changed to improve performance possibilities.

Crush Delay v2 has two VCAs that will control the amount of signal that is sent to the delay. First input routed to dry/wet and delay and second one directly to delay. With this second input and Send output we can do external feedback routings (See block diagram below)

The biggest improvement has been made to the control of PT2399 itself, applying circuit bending techniques. It has an improved and extended speed control, getting a wider range on Crush area as well as a smoother control, converting this unit into a VC digital garbage generator!

It includes three gate controlled switches that enables three bends to the chip, providing an even greater variety of digital noise, glitches and nasty mayhem!

Of course, crush Delay v2 can be used as an echo-delay unit with around 400 ms clean delay time. and up to 2 seconds of dirty delay.

Features VC feedback with an automatic gain control to keep levels stable at any feedback level.

Sampling Modulator is a multi-function module. Something between a VCO a Sample & Hold and a 8 step trigger sequencer

It can work as:

–Sequencer clocked Sample and Hold. In this mode it is like a regular sample and hold, but since it is “sequencer clocked” make more interesting patterns than the usual S&H melodies because they can have more repetition.
The clock In, can work in two ways: Clock and Sync. Clock is just a typical clock and Sync is a “positive going Hard sync” so you can create shuffling and poly-rhythmic Fx with it.
also the hold In is useful to keep some notes on.

-Analog down sampling effect. In that mode (with the clock running at audio rates) you can go from nasty and harsh Sampling rate reduction to almost clean signal. (the clock run up to 25Khz without external CV and up to 200Khz with CV on the input)

–Sampling Modulator. (or maybe is better to call it sampling shaper)
Due to the V/oct clock, you can feed the IN with a simple wave shape like a sine, and later send pitch CV to that VCO and to the Sampling modulator CV In, so the two frequencies are related to each other and the aliasing created by the sampling rate reduction is also related to that frequency creating lots of clangorous metallic sound, 8 bit textures and much more. The game became much more interesting when you begging to destroy the wave turning on and off the switches of the sequencer. (sometimes it sound like tree VCOs the same time…)
To understand this mode keep in mind it have a temperature compensated ramp core VCO with more than 4 octaves tracking, so the timbre keep the same when you move trough different notes because the internal and external VCOs are moving same way in something like a “frequency related sampling rate modulation”

-8 step trigger sequencer. Just a regular utility trig generator, useful also as clock divider. The switches have tree position. On, Off and Reset (reset to the first step for non 4/4 signatures)

-Unusual V/oct VCO. You can use the trigger outs like a pulse VCO but when you switch on and off the switches timbre changes a lot

This is a dual Hi/Low pass filter. Inspired by the famous sallen key filter from MS-20 early version.

It has attenuverters (inverter-attenuator) as an addition to the normal CV control in Cut-Off and CV control for the resonance with a little more presence of the resonance than the original. The normal CV control for Cut-Off keeps tracking trough 3 octaves.

The ‘Link’ switch connects the input of the second into the output of the first to have it in series

Sometimes the interaction between a modular system and other musical instruments (electronic or acoustic) is needed. With an envelope follower circuit we can achieve a direct control of the amplitude of the signal.
It will produce a control voltaje proportional to the amplitude. Allowing a real communication between our system and the external sound source.

Instrument interface module has the following blocks:

“PREAMP”
With two audio inputs (6.5 jack and Minijack/banana), input apmlification is controlled with “GAIN” pot, controlling the amplitude of the envelopes that will be generated.
Minimum signal required to generate the maximum envbelope is 200mV peak and allows up to 5v input.

“BPF”
The signal will pass thru a band pass filter with cutoff frequency and band width control via “FREQ” and “WIDTH” pots.
Like this we will select the frequency range that will generate our control signal.
After this stage the signal will be outputed with synth level via “AUDIO OUT”.

“ENV.FOLLOWER”
After filtering the signal it will feed “RESPONSE” stage, that will determine envelope follower response velocity. It features a “HIGH”, “MEDIUM” and “lOW” selector switch to get an optimal envelope for different kind of signals. “FOLLO OUT” will otput the envelope extracted and show us it’s level via a LED. Green: Medium level, Orange: High level and Red: Max. Level.

“ENV.REGENERATOR”
“REGE OUT” is a re-generated envelope that will allow controlling the rise of the evelope with “ATTACK” and the fall with “DECAY”, making them longer or shorter.
It features a LED indicator for the regenerated evelope level. Green: Medium level, Orange: High level, Red: Max. Level.

“TRIG.EXTRACTOR”
With “THRESHOLD” pot we control the level of a comparator that determines when “GATE OUT” and “TRIGG OUT outputs will be activated.
“GATE OUT” will be at high level while the envelope is over the threshold we set, while TRIGG OUT is present just when the threshold is passed.
Indication LEDS will show when the outputs are active.

It´s been always discussed if electronic generated sound is less “realistic” than the acoustic generated sound. One of the main differences is the natural inclusion of the acoustic space where an acoustic instrument is played in opposition of electronic generated ones. A good technique to approach both worlds is to simulate the acoustic feeling of a closed space.

The reverberation (effect produced by the space where the sounding object is) is the sum of all sound reflections of a single sound, that reaches a point in different moments.

To simulate this effect we pass the sound through a spring via two transducers (one in each end). The sound will propagate and, thanks to the contraction and expansion capabilities of the spring, a series of reflections will be generated. These are very similar to the ones that are generated in an acoustic space.

This module  main features:

Two audio inputs. Both CV controlled plus slider control.

  • “IN1” is routed both to “DRY” mix and reverb tank input.
  • “IN2” Goes only to the reverb tank.

Two outputs

  • “WET” comes straight from reverb tank.
  • “MIX” is the mix of DRY signal and the output of reverb tank. It has CV control

This configuration allows to feedback   “WET” signal back to the module via “IN2” either a straight feedback of passing through other modules before coming back to IN2.
Like this, with MIX control we never loose our original signal, controlling the amount of reverb and feedback on the mix.

It features a high pass filter at the input of the  tank to control the tone of the reverberations and an eventual saturation of the spring when we are doing a feedback.

There is a built-in Vu-meter at “WET” output to visualize level and eventual saturation of the signal.

This unit does an analog multiplication of two signal (A and B) and add an offset (C).

It can act as a dual voltage controlled attenvuerter, dual ring modulator, dual VCA or four channel mixer.

Signal B has a attenuverter that will multiply by -2 to 2 while Offset has a -1 to 1 attenuverter (unity gain).
B and C inputs are normalled to 5v and 10v so A input can be processed just using the potentiometers.

The output of first block is normalized to second one so second output can act as master, to get (A1*B1+C1) + (A2*B2+C2)
